Crossing Guard Certification
I’ve reached out the the school district for crossing guard help. They responded with a plan to implement a volunteer team to help kids cross the intersection, but the volunteer team isn’t allowed to act as crossing guards. I’ve reached out to the city, the school district and Safe Routes to School looking to be certified as a crossing guard, but it’s been over a week and nobody’s responded to my request. According to crossing guard rules, an intersection like Kenneth and Sunset should have at least two crossing guards due to its many lanes of traffic. Not only am I alone out there, they want to strip me of any safety tool I can hold. If you know how to get certified as a crossing guard please help me out. I want to be law abiding, but I don’t want to be hit by a car trying to keep kids safe. We have a near accident at least once a week at this intersection. Visibility and communication is key. Drivers don’t want to stop, even if the pedestrian started crossing the street before the vehicle arrived. It’s scary.
